L -groups versus k -groups

Roman Frič (1993)

Mathematica Bohemica

We investigate free groups over sequential spaces. In particular, we show that the free k -group and the free sequential group over a sequential space with unique limits coincide and, barred the trivial case, their sequential order is ω 1 .

Large families of dense pseudocompact subgroups of compact groups

Gerald Itzkowitz, Dmitri Shakhmatov (1995)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We prove that every nonmetrizable compact connected Abelian group G has a family H of size |G|, the maximal size possible, consisting of proper dense pseudocompact subgroups of G such that H ∩ H'={0} for distinct H,H' ∈ H. An easy example shows that connectedness of G is essential in the above result. In the general case we establish that every nonmetrizable compact Abelian group G has a family H of size |G| consisting of proper dense pseudocompact subgroups of G such that each intersection H H'...

Layer potentials C*-algebras of domains with conical points

Catarina Carvalho, Yu Qiao (2013)

Open Mathematics

To a domain with conical points Ω, we associate a natural C*-algebra that is motivated by the study of boundary value problems on Ω, especially using the method of layer potentials. In two dimensions, we allow Ω to be a domain with ramified cracks. We construct an explicit groupoid associated to ∂Ω and use the theory of pseudodifferential operators on groupoids and its representations to obtain our layer potentials C*-algebra. We study its structure, compute the associated K-groups, and prove Fredholm...

Lie groupoids of mappings taking values in a Lie groupoid

Habib Amiri, Helge Glöckner, Alexander Schmeding (2020)

Archivum Mathematicum

Endowing differentiable functions from a compact manifold to a Lie group with the pointwise group operations one obtains the so-called current groups and, as a special case, loop groups. These are prime examples of infinite-dimensional Lie groups modelled on locally convex spaces. In the present paper, we generalise this construction and show that differentiable mappings on a compact manifold (possibly with boundary) with values in a Lie groupoid form infinite-dimensional Lie groupoids which we...
