EuDML will bring together the dispersed European heritage of digital mathematical literature in a virtual collection. EuDML will aggregate a central metadata repository and give each item with a persistent identifier and a pointer to the associated full text and bibliographical databases.
Making digitalised publications easily available in one location, will lead to significant improvements of the conditions for research, especially in the developing world. Creating a common infrastructure of digital mathematical content will make mathematics readily available for all users, and will considerably increase the competitiveness and productivity of scholars from all over Europe.
EuDML will focus not only on mathematics students and scholars. Working scientists and engineers will also be important users. The EuDML service will save time, money, and resources to librarians and information managers in obtaining mathematical documents and managing their own collections.
Also the science-friendly public will enjoy accessing Europe’s extraordinary cultural heritage in the field of mathematics through expected interoperability with Europeana.eu
